After easily beating Bourg-en-Bresse, Rudi Garcia's men had not been spared in the draw for the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. It was a match away at the other beaten semi-finalist of last season, FC Nantes, that they had to play to hope to continue their unbeaten run in the domestic cups. Already qualified for the semifinals of the Coupe de la Ligue against Lille, Lyon were certainly not satisfied. They demonstrated it within a few seconds of kick-off and then again in a few minutes more with a double from the very young Rayan Cherki. Les Canaris reacted quickly but OL got back in front by two goals to finish a first half that was as dynamic as it was fast-paced.
After playing a cut above for 45 minutes that were of very good quality, OL had a little more trouble upon returning from the locker room, bothered by a more incisive Nantes. But Jason Denayer's teammates did not waver and were even close to widening the gap, through Rayan Cherki. Unstoppable, the latter obtained a penalty that Moussa Dembélé did not convert. The number 9 quickly made amends, however, by scoring shortly thereafter. The end of the match promised to be calm, however, nothing was going as planned. Two goals conceded in succession in the last minutes had OL on a knife edge ... but without falling at the last, thanks to a big save by Lopes at the end of a spectacular match. The superb start to 2020 continues; the next match is at Groupama Stadium on Tuesday in the semifinal of the Coupe de la Ligue against Lille!
. EXPERT ANALYSIS - BRYAN BERGOUGNOUX.
Qualification had to be obtained. How can one describe the performance of Rayan who bossed the game with his talent, his genius, his intelligence of play? He is one of those who moreover managed the end of the match with the best of them, it's hats off to him and to the entire Lyon side this evening. It’s never easy when one is so strong and so young, to achieve such professionalism, so congratulations also to all of the people at the training center who worked with him.
