Formerly Seattle Reign FC, OL Reign took its current name on March 6, 2020, shortly after Groupe OL became the club's majority shareholder. Alongside Jean-Michel Aulas, Tony Parker (a four-time NBA champion and President of LDLC ASVEL and OL's brand ambassador in the United States), and Bill Predmore, founder of the club, joined the new board of shareholders.
Together, they are carrying out a new project which aims to support OL Reign at the highest level of the NWSL and to develop the OL brand in the United States with two flagship teams on the two continents. The sharing of skills and know-how in terms of training young players is also a major part of what is being put in place to achieve this objective.
A founding member of the National Women's Soccer League in 2013, OL Reign, based in Tacoma in the suburbs of Seattle, finished twice first in the regular season in 2014 and 2015, but failed each time in the play-offs to claim the title. Now coached by Farid Benstiti, a quadruple champion of France with the OL women's team, the franchise wants to have long-term success and be among the biggest teams in the NWSL. For this the club can count on a number of experienced players who have worked with OL, such as the Welsh international Jess Fishlock, the Costa Rican international Shirley Cruz or the double World Champion and Olympic Champion Megan Rapinoe, winner of the Ballon d'Or in 2019.
