After OL–PSG: Revenge, Part I
By winning on Sunday evening, the big match of the 8th round of D1 Arkema (6-1), our Lyonnaises won the first round of this duel against PSG which promises, as it has in the past, to all but crown the winner of the French league.
It was a first step in order to exact a bit of revenge against the Parisians who stole the French title from us last season, which our women's team has made their own during a 14-year reign.
This end to domestic supremacy was all the harder to swallow as the Parisians also eliminated the Lyonnaises from the Champions League, where they had held the title for five years.
Winning this duel was therefore as much a matter of honor as it was a necessity in clearing the path to return. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday on the eve of this crucial match, Christiane Endler, the goalkeeper of OL, having joined from PSG this summer, said no less.
"By winning, we would obviously get closer to the title, even if there is still a long way to go," admitted the Chilean international. Of course, there is still a long way to go. But by winning Act I of this duel against Les Parisiennes, our Lyonnaises are on course to take their revenge.
