Sélections : Retour sur le début de semaine de nos internationaux
Several Lyonnais were in action at the start of the week for their final games of the October international break. Here's a recap of the results.

Job done for our African internationals! On Monday, Karl Toko Ekambi (Cameroon) and Sinaly Diomande (Ivory Coast) played the fourth matchday of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. The Indomitable Lions, who traveled to Mozambique, won, 1-0, thanks to a goal in the second half. Our number 7, who started in attack, was subbed off at the break. Les Elephants hosted Malawi, with the aim of retaining the first place in Group D. The teammates of Sinaly Diomande, who remained on the bench during this meeting, emerged victorious by a score of 2 goals to 1. The competition continued on Tuesday for Malcolm Barcola (Togo) and Islam Slimani (Algeria). A starter in the Togolese goal against Congo, our goalkeeper played the entire match, winning 2 goals to 1. Now Algeria's all-time leading scorer Islam Slimani came off at half-time against Niger, as his team won 4 goals to 0.

In the European qualifiers for the World Cup, Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland) stood out with his side against Lithuania, providing an assist from a corner to Embolo for his team’s opener. It was eventually a 4-0 victory for the Swiss, and 75 minutes played. Our other Lyonnais, Anthony Lopes was only on the bench as Portugal won, 5 goals to 0, against Luxembourg.

Finally, our four Gones: Maxence Caqueret, Rayan Cherki, Malo Gusto and Castello Lukeba headed to Serbia as part of qualifying for the U-21 Euros. Caqueret played the entirety of the game again, while the other three started on the bench. Rayan Cherki once again contributed to his team’s success (3-0), with a late goal after coming into play, while Malo Gusto played the last ten minutes of the match.

The last match of the break sees Brazil and Lucas Paqueta in action overnight from Thursday to Friday against Uruguay, while our other internationals will return to training in the coming days to prepare for Monaco's visit on Saturday.
