Xherdan Shaqiri: "I want to pass on a winning mentality"
“I’m very happy to be here. The negotiation was difficult. For me, it was clear, I wanted to come here. There really was no doubt. It's a very good project with a new coach, whom I like a lot. I am a player who is always hungry to improve. This team has a lot of potential. They are a very successful club in France and Europe who want to win titles again. The club have identified a need for experienced players, and I think they're on the way to taking the next step. I really want to pass on my winning mentality, to help the team's young players. The supporters deserve experience a period of greatness again. We have everything one needs here to work towards that in the best possible way."
“I was at the Switzerland match against France at the Euro. Shaqiri hurt us badly; he was extremely effective in turning the momentum of the match. I didn't know at the time that we could bring him in. If he hadn't really wanted to come to OL, it would have been even more difficult. We are happy to have been able to conclude these negotiations. We really believe in his quality."
“Shaqiri is capable of scoring, of making assists. Above all, he has a winning attitude. He's won titles everywhere he has gone; that's something important. We did everything we could to get him to come join us. He spoke with the coach and he showed an eagerness to come. We hope he will be happy at OL; we will do everything to ensure that this is the case."
