Villarreal – OL: a fixture with a European feel
Three years after their last confrontation in Europa League (a 4-1 aggregate victory), OL face Villarreal in a friendly. Houssem Aouar and co., who have been performing well since the start of pre-season (three consecutive wins against Bourg-en-Bresse, Villefranche and Wolfsburg), are facing a new opponent who last season qualified for the Champions League. While he has called up a smaller squad this time, Peter Bosz can still count on the return of two internationals: Anthony Lopes and Léo Dubois have returned to the group and will be available for this match.
Coached by Unai Emery, the Castilians concluded their season by winning the Europa League at the expense of Manchester United. Finishing eighth in La Liga, Villarreal will be able to rely on their young players, such as Pau Torres, Samuel Chukwueze and Yeremi Pino, as well as their experienced attacking duo, composed of Gerard Moreno and Paco Alcacer. Our opponents have also made several recent additions to their squad. Juan Foyth, Aissa Mandi, Manu Morlanes and Boulaye Dia have recently signed for the Spanish club. All these factors combine to promise a great match-up between two sides taking part in European competition this season.
