Summary and lessons learnt:
For the second game of the evening after victory against Villefranche, Peter Bosz unsurprisingly changed his entire XI. And in doing so, he fielded a much more experienced team to face an opponent of a completely different calibre, German side Wolfsburg. In a noisy Groupama Stadium for the first time in many months, the intensity had clearly increased. Lyon responded and opened the scoring very early in the game through Toko Ekambi. The domination paid off a second time with Dembele's goal. Wolfsburg soon reduced the deficit in the aftermath and proved more and more dangerous, pulling one back in a balanced end of the first half.
In front of 8,000 spectators, who were visibly happy to be back in their stadium, Dembele's teammates regained the initiative and regaled their supporters with some fine play. Toko Ekambi capitalised on this strong period by getting himself a second goal from a perfect cross by Gusto, who was heavily involved like fellow youngster Lukeba. As against Villefranche, the coach took advantage of the last 15 minutes to introduce a number of players from the Academy. Wissa closed the night with a fourth goal and sealed a third success in as many friendlies. Our next game is on Thursday at 8pm against Villarreal.
At Groupama Stadium in Décines.
