Olympique Lyonnais will participate in the Women's ICC this summer
The prestigious Women's International Champions Cup pre-season tournament resumes this summer, two years after the last edition. Olympique Lyonnais will return to the competition in the hope of retaining their title, won against the North Carolina Courage in 2019.
Olympique Lyonnais is one of four teams that will participate in the 2021 edition of the Women's International Champions Cup thanks to its victories in the UEFA Women's Champions League and D1 Arkema in 2020, having the label of the competition's most successful club. The competition, which will take place in Portland at Providence Park from August 18 to 21, will also welcome three other Champions: FC Barcelona, winner of the 2020 Spanish league and the 2021 UEFA Women's Champions League, the Portland Thorns, winners of the NWSL 2020 Fall Series, and the Houston Dash, who won the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup.
The Lyonnaises will first face FC Barcelona in an all-European match. The winner of this will then face, in the final of the tournament, the winner of the "American tie" between Portland Thorns and the Houston Dash, while the two losers will play for third place.
Olympique Lyonnais will be keen to defend their title against three teams who will be participating in this event for the first time.
