After extending her contract with Olympique Lyonnais for two additional seasons, until June 30, 2023, Eugénie Le Sommer will join OL Reign at the end of the women's D1 season to take part in the new season of the National Women's Soccer League.
Like Sarah Bouhaddi and Dzsenifer Marozsán, who will also join the Seattle franchise on June 5, the French international striker (175 caps) will play for the first time in the American top flight, which will kick off on May 15 against North Carolina Courage, the defending champion.
The top scorer in club history (274 goals), Eugénie Le Sommer will aim to further her record across the Atlantic with a franchise that is majority-owned by OL Groupe at 89.5% (Bill Predmore 7.5%, Tony Parker 3%) and which will aim for the league title in its first year.
The reaction of Eugénie Le Sommer
“I wanted to have a new experience and experience one of the most competitive leagues in the world. The United States remains for me the leading country in women's football. I couldn't refuse this opportunity. I'm fine in Lyon but joining OL Reign for a few months feels like I'm staying with the same club. It's a little diversion in my career, and I will come back to Lyon with even higher ambitions."
