Rudi Garcia avant OL - Lorient : "L'OL mérite d'être en Champion's League"
Coach Rudi Garcia gave a press conference on Thursday to answer journalists' questions before the match between OL and FC Lorient on Saturday. The full press conference can be found on OLPlay.

Medical update

“Tomorrow's training session will allow us to know if Islam Slimani, Djamel Benlamri, Jason Denayer and Melvin Bard will be in the squad or not for Saturday. The only certainty is that Memphis, Maxence Caqueret, Marcelo and Mattia De Sciglio will not be there because they are suspended. We have been partially been given justice. The sanctions given to both sides clearly show that we are the victims and not aggressors. We've seen that our two players were not part of what happened. We will put out the best possible team against Lorient. "

The match against Lorient

“No matter who we play, we'll be motivated. We changed the dynamic in Monaco. We want to be third place come Saturday night. We're playing a team from Lorient which is very dangerous, especially going forward. By hook or by crook, we want to take all three points on Saturday, in view of the pressure of the end of the season and fixture congestion, I think that the three teams in front will not take all nine points."

The win against Monaco

“There were a lot of moments that went against us in this match, but we didn’t give up. We will have to build from this good performance against Monaco."

Accounting for the team's absences in defense

“One of the first that comes to mind when it comes to helping out in defense is Thiago Mendes, although he's never played in that position. He has the characteristics to do so. We've also worked with the youngsters this week on defensive basics.  Thiago is a smart player with a good motor, and good technique. He has a good mental game. It is not out of the question that we play with three at the back to secure things centrally. I know what the players are capable of bringing and giving of themselves for the good of the team."

Houssem Aouar coming back from injury

"Houssem Aouar is not yet 100% I think. We need his quality. He started this season admirably. I hope he finishes it strong as well. He came on and played in Monaco in a two-man midfield. He is able to do this. There are many advantages to Houssem coming back to 100%. He needs to be more consistent  and mentally ready."

Everything to gain

“We can't finish in a worse place in the league. There is nothing to lose. We have to get stuck in and succeed. It will start by winning against Lorient on Saturday. The team will have to be smart to do that."

Securing a place in the Champions League

“Considering how we played in the last Champions League, I think we deserve to finish in this place. It's up to us to believe and to do better than the others over the last three matches. This is where Olympique Lyonnais should be."

The situation of playing behind closed doors

“I think there is an element of communication that is important. If we play a team that are more quiet, I think we can gain the upper hand by encouraging each other a lot. When a player does things right, we hear the bench celebrate them. The only downside to playing behind closed doors is that players can influence decisions more easily. You have to keep your respect for the opponent."
