Sarah Bouhaddi and Dzsenifer Marozsán will join OL Reign on loan from June 5, 2021
Sarah Bouhaddi and Dzsenifer Marozsán, who both extended their contracts with Olympique Lyonnais last summer (until June 30, 2024 and June 30, 2023, respectively) will join the team led by Farid Benstiti in early June to play the 2021 National Women's League Soccer season.
The French international goalkeeper, at the club since 2009, and the German international midfielder, who has played in Lyon since 2016, will compete in the American to flight as part of an ambitious squad which contains the former Lyonnais Megan Rapinoe, Ballon d'Or winner in 2019, as well as Jessica Fishlock and Shirley Cruz.
The loans of Sarah Bouhaddi and Dzsenifer Marozsán thus confirm OL Reign's very high ambitions in the NWSL and further accentuate the cooperative ties between the two clubs. As a reminder, since March 2020, several OL Reign players have already joined the Lyon squad: Jodie Taylor, Celia Jimenez Delgado as well as Bethany Balcer and Sofia Huerta, both of whom came to train at the Groupama OL Training Center over the winter.
OL Reign's team have just started their season with the Challenge Cup, a preseason tournament, and will begin their regular season in May.
The reaction of Sarah Bouhaddi
“By extending my contract with OL, we agreed with President Jean-Michel Aulas that I would join Seattle. I am therefore very happy to seize this opportunity and to be one of the first Lyonnaises to join OL Reign. I've always had a lot of admiration for the American league. I hope we can have a great season together. "
The reaction of Dzsenifer Marozsán
“It’s an incredible chance for me to join OL Reign and be one of the first to benefit from the bond between the two clubs. I am very happy and looking forward to discovering the American league. I was very impressed with the intensity of our match against North Carolina at the ICC. I hope this will improve and as always, that we can win as many matches as possible. "
The reaction of Jean-Michel Aulas (President, OL Groupe)
“Today, with the loan of Sarah and Dzsenifer to OL Reign, we are taking another step towards achieving the goals of our project in the United States: to continue building a team capable of competing with the best clubs in the world. These two players have made a huge contribution to OL's footballing ambitions. They have won numerous trophies and built a record unheard of in the history of sport worldwide. At OL Reign, they will have the unique opportunity to have a new experience and bring their own knowledge to what will be an unprecedented project in women's football, then return to finish their careers at OL."
The reaction of Bill Predmore (CEO, OL Reign)
“Sarah and Dzsenifer are incredible talents who will have an immediate impact on our team. It was a long process to see this happen, but it was definitely worth the wait. We are delighted that this process is now complete and look forward to seeing the players on the pitch when they arrive in June."
