Match summary

While the weekend had got off to a good start with Lille's surprise draw, the expected victories for PSG and Monaco earlier in the day had put OL in a tough situation when it came to their trip to Nantes. Following up a comfortable win against Angers was non-negotiable to stay in the race for a week ahead of a key clash against LOSC. The Lyonnais understood this well and started things off with a bang with a goal from Memphis after just a few minutes of play. Ever-dominant, they continued their good momentum albeit without creating many chances. The breakthrough came once again from Paqueta, who seems perfectly suited to his new role as a number ten, having been behind the action that resulted in a penalty, converted by the captain.

Having had little to do in the first half, Lopes was called upon soon after the team's return from the locker room. His huge save, however, was not enough to prevent Nantes from reducing the deficit. Les Canaris were back in the game as the Lyonnais tried to play on the counter, but they couldn't manage this enough to find a goal that could seal the result. The threat did diminish in intensity but still existed with five minutes remaining before OL eventually recorded what would be a vital second win in a row, three days away from hosting Monaco in the Coupe de France and Lille in Ligue 1 next Sunday evening.
