After OL-Angers: Paqueta on the front foot
A goal against Lens, another against Red Star and finally a third last night against Angers, it is now three consecutive matches that Lucas Paquetá has added his name to the scoreboard, to go with two assists. Before the match against Le SCO, Rudi Garcia expressed his happiness over the recent success of his midfielder: “This is where I expected him to be at the start of the season, and he has met 100% of my expectations over the last few months." Against the Angevins, the Brazilian gave his coach further reason to smile.
Playing just ahead of Bruno Guimarães and Maxence Caqueret, Paquetá was one of Lyon’s most attacking players. He had the match's first chances and also hit the post just before Memphis opened the scoring. And just before half-time, he took advantage of a superb ball from Karl Toko Ekambi and slotted home from the penalty spot to double the lead, scoring a real striker's goal. More than this, he remained a threat with the ball at his feet, as the OL number 12 also proved invaluable in allowing his side to keep the ball as well as win it back, something to which he has already accustomed the fans since his arrival. Near the end of the match, he finished off a sublime performance by perfectly playing in his captain, who was only too happy to score the match's third goal.
Involved in eight goals in his last nine matches with OL, Lucas Paqueta seems to be ending his season even stronger than he had started it, giving Lyon and its fans plenty of hope.
