After a surprise defeat on the part of Lille ahead of the match, OL-PSG would see the winner take top spot in the league heading into the international break. The two teams played with a degree of caution in the first minutes before first Kean and then Paqueta each put Lopes and Navas to the test. Paris gradually took control of the game the play of Di Maria and Mbappé soon came to hurt the hosts. At the quarter of an hour of play, despite a superb save from our Lopes, Mbappé managed to slip the ball between his legs to open the scoring. OL had tried to react but lacked a finishing touch in the final third. PSG took advantage of this lack of being clinical and doubled the lead through Pereira on 31 minutes. The Parisians would return to the locker room with a two-goal advantage.
At the start of the second half, OL were caught cold, first by a free kick from Di Maria, then by Mbappé soon after Toko Ekambi had forced Navas into a nice save a few seconds earlier. Rudi Garcia then rang the changes, making a triple substitution just before the hour mark. The effects of the substitutes were soon felt as Les Gones became more dangerous and Slimani even scored his first league goal to reduce the deficit. OL were in a hurry to get back in the game, but had to wait to score a second goal until a fine pass from Cherki found Cornet who did not hesitate to beat Navas. The Lyonnais then gave everything to stage an improbable comeback, but unfortunately the Parisian goalkeeper continued to have a great night and repelled efforts from Slimani and Caqueret. OL ended up losing 4-2 as their opponent on the evening took top spot in the league.
