OL-Sochaux: Control the game
It's a busy week for OL. After a trip to Marseille six days ago and the reception of Rennes midweek, Les Gones are once again in action, in the Coupe de France this time. After beating AC Ajaccio in the previous round, Rudi Garcia’s men are again facing a team from a lower division, with this latest match a showdown against Sochaux. They will have to show the same level seriousness as they against the Corsicans in a 5-1 victory to move on to the next round and bring the Coupe de France closer to the trophy cabinet, a major title they've not won since 2012.
After a loss against Montpellier, the Lyonnais raised their game, even if their play wasn't as impressive, and they were still able to get the points they needed to stay in battle for top spot in the league. They will have to put in the same level of effort to against the Sochaliens who have nothing to lose. Rudi Garcia and Juninho have never hidden it, a Coupe de France title is one of the club’s goals, and an elimination at this stage of the competition would be more than regrettable for a side who were semi-finalists last season.
Playing in Ligue 2 since 2014, FC Sochaux is not having the best spell in its history, but this 2020-2021 season could indeed be pivotal. Currently, Omar Daf’s men are still in the race for a playoff place to be promoted to Ligue 1 and remain on a six-match unbeaten streak. To get this far in the Coupe de France, the Francs-Comtois side has defeated Nancy and then Saint-Etienne, all without conceding a goal. Olympique Lyonnais will have to beware of the Lionceaux.
