It was time for the team to get back to winning ways. A short week after conceding their third defeat this season, and their second at home in 2021, OL were back on the road and back to winning ways. Having previously been very successful on their travels, they could even take top spot temporarily if they could manage to win against a tough opponent, Stade Brestois. From the off, Olivier Dall’Olglio’s side lived up to their reputation with two chances in the opening seconds. But they could also be to blame in playing an open style, as when Paqueta opened the scoring. Just a few minutes later, Aouar scored the second goal when Brest once again lost the ball. The Lyonnais extinguished the enthusiasm and confidence of their opponents and would soon add a third goal, with Memphis scoring from the penalty spot.
While neither the wind nor the rain had really weakened during the break, the Brestois did manage to recover, offering up a fine passage of play that allowed them to close the deficit. Continuing to dominate, Rudi Garcia's players kept control of the game but lacked a finishing touch in front of goal and exposed themselves to the opponents' counterattacks in a very open match. Once the second goal was conceded, they did little to take control and limit their hosts. There was now a quarter of an hour to play to not let slip what had seemed to be three points against an increasingly dangerous Brest side, and eventually OL held on until the final whistle! Despite their struggles, Les Gones could retake top spot thanks to a better goal difference than Lille.
