Shortly after a win by PSG and a few hours before Lille face Brest, OL had no real choice other than to move back into second place and hope to regain control of Ligue 1. The start of the meeting against Montpellier, one of the the only two teams against whom OL have dropped points this season was promising. After just 15 seconds of play Lyon, determined to take the game to their opponents, already had a great chance -- the tone was set. But as one might expect, Montpellier were more than ready to respond. In a match as intense as it was open, the chances were plentiful for both sides, and Savanier found the back of the net for the visitors. The opening goal did not dampen the attacking tendencies of Paqueta's teammates, however, who scored the equalizer at an ideal time, in the dying seconds of the first half.
The second half started out in the same vein, with chances for both teams to take the lead. The duels became more aggressive, and tempers flared in the freezing cold of Décines. The game was getting more and more choppy. This style of play benefited Montpellier, who quickly regained the lead. Rudi Garcia brought on Cherki and Slimani to try to make the difference in what was a tense end to the match. The Lyonnais applied plenty of pressure but continued to miss the finishing touch, even as Slimani and his teammates kept pushing for an equalizer, even as their efforts were eventually insufficient to come away with a point...
