After OL-Ajaccio: Things are going well!
With Djamel Benlamri and Islam Slimani celebrating their first starts in an OL jersey, Melvin Bard and Rayan Cherki were also in the starting XI for the first time since November. Playing on the left side of the front three, Maxwel Cornet found himself in an attacking role, one in which he had not been seen since the match against Lens in Ligue 1. However, when it came to the pitch, none of these five, or their teammates. seemed to be lacking in their ability to perform.
After just ten minutes, Slimani played in Memphis for the opener before being picked out by De Sciglio for his first goal in his new colors. Bruno Guimarães and Maxence Caqueret were doing well to control the midfield and the Brazilian found Maxwel Cornet perfectly, the winger scoring OL's third goal in the 24th minute. Then it was the turn of Rayan Cherki, the only striker not to have found the net so far, who combined with Slimani to definitively bury the Corsicans' hopes and also register the fourth goal of his career in the Coupe de France, despite being only 17 years old. The second half was all but a formality and only Houssem Aouar, who had come on at the break in place of Memphis, would add a goal, from the penalty spot.
With a run of four matches in 15 days ending on Saturday, Rudi Garcia managed to do well to rotate his squad which currently has a record of three wins in as many matches over this period. This is, of course, good news for the Lyon coach who knows he can count on the involvement of the whole squad without exception... which bodes well for what is already a promising second half of the season.
