Transfers: Meet Islam Slimani
All about Islam Slimani
Born in 1988, Islam Slimani began his professional career in his native country. After four successful seasons at CR Belouizdad, he left Algeria to join Sporting Club de Portugal in 2013. After two decent first seasons in which he scored eight, then 12 league goals, he came alive in his third season. He scored a whopping 27 goals in 33 league appearances, second in Liga NOS, while Sporting finished second to Benfica.
In 2016, Slimani joined Leicester City where he formed a very complementary duo with Riyad Mahrez. After the departure of Claudio Ranieri from the Foxes, the Algerian international played less and went out on loan. Despite these difficult experiences, he did well with his national team and won the Africa Cup of Nations in July 2019. Riding on this dynamic, he joined Monaco on loan last season and had a fine campaign, before the season was unfortunately stopped. Forced to return to England, the striker made his return to France a priority... and now it is done!
