OL -Metz: To stay top
After a first part of the season that ended on top of the table and the honorary title of autumn champion after a draw in Rennes, OL must assume their new role. Very close to experiencing their second loss of the season, Rudi Garcia's men were able to reverse the trend to recover from a two-goal deficit, equalize and thus keep Rennes at bay in the standings. It is with this in mind that they will have to approach the reception of Metz and thus continue their good form, which was all the more impressive as the two games played after the break took place when Lyon's squad were deprived of several important players. A week later, the team should be back to normal for the reception of Metz.
At the top of Ligue 1 since the winter break, OL intend to hang on to this first place as long as possible. But OL still feel pressure from Lille and PSG, who are only one point back. And as these two contenders face Reims and Angers respectively, Les Gones would be well advised to win against Metz, otherwise they could lose top spot. However, this season Memphis’s teammates have always been able to get the job done, when it comes to playing teams lower down the table, especially at home. Faced with the teams in the bottom half of the table, they have a record of 4 wins and a draw. This is further proof of the total concentration that reigns in the Lyon squad when it comes to getting it done as a means of showing that at home, Lyon is the boss.
A little over a month after welcoming them to the Stade Saint-Symphorien, the Messins will face Olympique Lyonnais once more. With 2 wins, 3 draws and one loss, to Rennes, since their loss to Lyon, Frédéric Antonetti's side have quickly got their heads together, even though their last victory was on 19 December. Twelfth in the table, they are slowly but surely moving towards survival and already have more points than at the same time last season. Nevertheless, Les Grenats are still down on their luck when it comes to facing the big sides in the league. Whether against OL, Lille, PSG, Monaco or Rennes, Metz have failed to take a single point this. And it was Les Gones who had inflicted on them their heaviest defeat from any member of the current top in the championship.
