Islam Slimani : « Je voulais vraiment représenter ce grand club »
Just arrived at OL, the team's new Algerian recruit, Islam Slimani, answered questions from journalists during a press conference alongside Jean-Michel Aulas and Juninho. The entire press conference can be found on OLPlay.

Islam Slimani

"I am very happy. It’s something I wanted, even at the start of the season. I really wanted to represent this great club. I thank OL for giving me this opportunity. I used to come to Givors a lot when I was little. I came with my Algerian club to participate in tournaments. This club has stuck in my head ever since. OL are a great club, all the players want to come and play here… I haven't played a lot in recent months but I've worked a lot to keep up my fitness. I am combative on the pitch and that will allow me to compensate for a lack of playing time. I have shown that I can play either centrally or on the flanks. There is no problem when you want to fight for your team. I can bring experience, a fighting spirit. I hope to do even better than I did with Monaco. I want to help the team achieve their goals. It's a long term thing. The club understood my desire. I have taken a new step in my career. It was a goal for me to play for a big club like this… I have talked a lot with Djamel Benlamri. He told me good things about the club, the players, the coach."

Jean-Michel Aulas

“We are very happy to welcome Islam Slimani. We had already spoken this summer, and now the opportunity has come to pass. I want to thank Juninho, who took matters into his own hands. We are happy to recruit an Algerian player. Everyone has played their part. We also gave Moussa Dembélé what he wanted. He is a fantastic player ... We are trying to adapt to the current situation. It is doubly difficult in France. The clubs find themselves in a difficult situation. Juninho said we need to have a very high level striker."

“We didn't really want to make any moves in the market, apart from Islam Slimani. Rudi Garcia wanted Jean Lucas to go out on loan. He hasn't played a lot with us. He could do more. He needs to grow up. I hope he comes back to play with us."
