Transfers: Islam Slimani arrives and Moussa Dembélé joins Atlético on loan
Olympique Lyonnais announces the loan of Moussa Dembélé to Atlético de Madrid through June 30, 2021.
This loan, in the amount of € 1.5M is accompanied by a purchase option set at € 33.5M to which may be added incentives up to € 5M, as well as a sell-on fee of 10% on a possible future transfer.
Arriving at Olympique Lyonnais in August 2018 from Celtic Glasgow for € 22m, the French U-21 international has played 108 games with the club and scored 45 goals. Under contract until June 30, 2023, Moussa Dembélé notably took part in OL's exceptional run to Final 8 in Lisbon last summer, scoring a brace against Manchester City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
To make up for Moussa Dembélé's departure from Atlético de Madrid, Olympique Lyonnais are pleased to announce the arrival of Algerian international striker Islam Slimani on an 18 month contract, until June 30, 2022.
Arriving on a free transfer from the English club Leicester City, Islam Slimani has had a solid career, with more than 380 professional matches to his credit, including 69 for the Algerian national team (30 goals) with whom he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, alongside Djamel Benlamri.
The 32-year-old Islam Slimani was loaned to AS Monaco last season, where he was voted the second-best African player in Ligue 1 with nine goals in 18 matches. Winner of the Algerian Ballon d'Or in 2013, Islam Slimani also has played in the Portuguese (Sporting), English (Leicester, Newcastle) and Turkish (Fenerbahçe) top flights, winning several trophies including the Portuguese Cup and SuperCup in 2015.
