OL - Lens : Seul leader, l'OL fait une affaire en Or ! (3-2)
OL won 3-2 against Lens on the 18th Matchday of Ligue 1 Uber Eats. Facing a great team from Lens who gave them all they could handle, the Lyonnais attacked 2021 as they had concluded 2020: with a great victory. This allows them to be the league leader thanks to missteps by Lille and PSG.

Match summary

After spending the end of the year holidays in top spot OL started 2021 with a status to protect, ambitions to be confirmed. For that, the autumn champion played host to Lens, a surprising promoted side who had developed the habit of troubling a few of the big teams. Despite the absences of Marcelo, Toko Ekambi, Guimaraes and Dembélé, the Lyonnais looked as sharp as they had at the end of 2020, albeit with less efficiency. Memphis remedied that just before the break with a technically superb goal that offered a leg up after a lively and dominant first half against a very skillful opponent.

The second act was ideal for Rudi Garcia's men to take the lead quickly. An own goal and a penalty from Memphis, to seal his double, allowed them to take their foot off the gas. These three goals scored in just 13 minutes had hurt the northern side, but they did not give up, as exemplified by the reduction of the score through Sotoca. Chances came thick and fast on both sides and Lens' threat intensified. We thought that the storm had passed but Lens reduced the deficit further at the very end of the match but OL held on and scored three ultra-important points, while Lille, beaten, and Paris, who could only draw, lost ground on Les Gones. It was the perfect result!
