What would await OL come the end of the evening if they turned in a strong performance? For this 17th Matchday in Ligue 1, the last of 2020, they could spend the holiday season warm, and more importantly at the top of the table. For that, the Lyonnais had to beat Nantes and do better than Lille, who had a challenging match away to Montpellier. It only took four minutes of play for the host to start asserting their ambitions as Karl Toko Ekambi was again among the goals. After a start to the match in line with the team's recent performances, Memphis teammates, as the pace of the match dropped, had a little more trouble in the game and Les Canaris regained confidence. Tino Kadewere, however, hadn't lost his and scored the goal to double the lead, breathing new life into the match as Lucas Paqueta took the opportunity to score his first in Lyon colors just before the break.
Very clinical during the first period, Lyon created several chances in quick succession after the interval, but Lafont played well his team not to sink completely. Rudi Garcia’s men were much less effective and the scoreboard remained at 3-0 for the time being. Aouar, Memphis, Kadewere then Cherki ... all tried to drive the point home to aid the team's goal differential, but in the end three goals were enough to overtake Lille, who won 3-2, and take control of Ligue 1 thanks to their improved goal difference. Autumn Champions!
