Malo Gusto signs his first professional contract
After Rayan Cherki, and more recently Florent Da Silva, it is now a new player from the 2003 generation who has signed his first professional contract, in the presence of President Jean-Michel Aulas and sporting director Juninho. Born in Décines, Malo Gusto joined the OL Academy in 2016. Despite his young age, the full back was particularly impressive last year with the U19s (17 matches in all competitions) before joining the reserves this season, playing seven of the team's nine league games. Training with the first team since the start of the season, the French U17 international has also been called up several times to be a part of the matchday squad in Ligue 1 by Rudi Garcia.
Malo Gusto is the fifth Academy player to sign a professional contract in 2020 after Yaya Soumaré, Djibrail Dib, Thibaut Ehling, and Florent Da Silva. Olympique Lyonnais thus confirms its determination to continue its model of sporting development around players from its Academy, as evidenced by the presence of nine academy-trained players among the 27 players who make up Rudi Garcia's professional squad including Anthony Lopes, Houssem Aouar , Maxence Caqueret and Melvin Bard, all of whom are senior internationals or have played at the U-21 level.
Malo Gusto :
It is a huge honor for me to sign my first professional contract at the club where I've developed. It is really not a milestone, though. We must continue to work because this is only the beginning. I have integrated well into the professional squad.
