PSG - OL: Lyon fall from the top (1-0)
11'. Goal by Katoto after beating Bouhaddi. 1-0.
17'. Free kick by Marozsan turned away by Endler.
42'. An acrobatic volley by Katoto flashes wide
There was an opportunity to strike a big blow in the race for the titles. In a Parc des Princes which unfortunately sounded only of echoes, OL could assert their national supremacy a little more against a PSG on the prowl who had entered the match just two points behind. Aware of what was at stake, the players from the capital started off with a bang with the desire to show their ambitions in this clash at the top of of D1 Arkema. The high intensity pressing on each side resulted in a lot of loss of the ball. PSG took advantage of this by converting their first opportunity. Lyon were, for the moment, without a solution offensively and to make matters worse, they saw regular goalscorer Le Sommer forced off through injury. The pace of the game then slackened slightly, which obviously did not do their task any favors in a difficult first period.
It was necessary to show more in the hope of bringing something back from the capital. That’s what they decided to do, but it wasn’t enough up to the hour mark against an aggressive and well-disciplined Parisian team. The clock was ticking and it was hard to be threatening for OL. Malard's entry in place of Cascarino, also injured, did not change anything. OL have conceded their first defeat in all competitions since the end of May 2018 (Coupe de France final) and their first in the league since December 2016, each time against PSG. Lyon fall from top spot, and are now one point behind PSG.
