Mattia De Sciglio: "We can go far with this team"
I needed to start playing regularly again, compared to last season, especially in view of the Euros taking place in June. The confidence displayed in me by the manager made me want to contribute to the good results of the team and has lit a spark in me. I knew that Lyon was a historic team in France that have won everything. What showed me that it was a great club was its organization, both in terms of the team as well as its training facilities, the stadium etc.
I was a center-back in the youth teams and then moved to full back. I have improved at this level, I really like to get forward, I am reaching a stage in my career where I manage balancing attack and defense and I hope to be able to help my teammates. Of course my job is to play on the right, but I can play on the left as well.
Competition is fundamental to a team, I will do my best to show that I can be a candidate for the starting eleven, I came here to play on a much more regular basis.
I had followed it in previous years, it's a league that has developed a lot in terms of quality and physical intensity, more than I imagined. Compared to the Italian league play is faster and it’s more fun, what matters is the style of play, anything can happen at any time and that’s what makes this league so beautiful.
The national team
My goal is to regain my position within the national team, I feel ready and I know the manager sees that I am here and knows that I will give my best.
The team's current form
We had three wins before the break, it's important to pick up where we left off, it's important to keep both our physical and mental form so as not to lose points along the way. The goal is to get back to the Champions League. All the games will be tough, it's up to us to make it easy by having a good frame of mind. The win we had against Saint-Etienne proved that we can go far with this team even if they are young.
