Match summary

For this 121st derby in history, OL are welcoming a team from Saint-Etienne that are in poor form, coming into the match on five consecutive defeats in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. For their part, the Lyonnais have only one loss in the league, and a win against their rival would be ideal before the international break. After a lively first quarter of an hour, the pace slowed down, the Saint-Etienne players drop back and are in place defensively, leaving little room for Rudi Garcia's side. It is finally just before half-time that the match gets a underway: after a missed one-on-one by Aouar, Saint-Etienne scored against the run of play : despite a superb save from Lopes, Denis Bounaga kept pushing and the Lyon goalkeeper was beaten, the goal being given as an own goal (39'). Thus it was behind by one goal that OL returned to the locker room.

The second half was like the first, OL had possession but are struggling to create chances, while ASSE tried to capitalize on the break. But Lyon's eventual reaction came shortly after the hour mark, following a clever combination on a free kick from Memphis, with Cornet picking out Tino Kadewere who equalized (65’). It was a goal that completely revived OL, since eight minutes later Kadewere beat the Stéphanois defense to give himself a brace. After that, a harsh penalty for a handball on Jean Lucas could have nullified Lyon's efforts, but Bouanga could only hit Lopes' post. OL won 2-1 and now move up to fifth place in the table.
