OL went to face the co-leader of Ligue 1 Uber Eats on a run of two consecutive victories, including a resounding one against Monaco last week -- another positive away result would allow Rudi Garcia's men to stay in touch with the leading teams. The start of the match was very balanced between the two teams. The ball moved quickly on both sides, and Lyon were very dangerous especially on the counterattack. They nevertheless stumbled against the Lille defense, or goalkeeper Mike Maignan, as when he came up big in a one-on-one against Tino Kadewere. But while OL dominated, Lille opened the scoring with their first shot of the match, through Jonathan Bamba. Les Gones didn't give up, however, and were rewarded shortly before half-time with a goal by Aouar, deflected into his own goal by Zeki Çelik. The two teams went back to the locker room level after a lively first period.
Reduced to ten men shortly after returning from the locker room following the sending off of Marcelo, OL were hanging on and could count on a great performance by Anthony Lopes to stay in the game. Like the goalkeeper, the entire defense was solid, aided by the entry of debutant Benlamri who played his first minutes in Lyon colors. LOSC logically dominate possession but it was unable to score in the face of the solidarity of the ten Lyonnais. Despite playing for 45 minutes a man down, Olympique Lyonnais left the Stade Pierre Mauroy with one point and remain in 6th place.
