Match summary

Wedged between an international truce and a week of rest, this match nevertheless had all the hallmarks of being a massive affair. Lyon, still and as always at the top of the ranking, and the Montpelliéraines, in third place ahead of the weekend's fixtures had indeed earned their status to this point. But with the team from Hérault missing several of its starters and deprived of its home crowd, OL started off with a very quick goal from Marozsan and thereafter asserted their superiority. First Henry, then Le Sommer scored, making the first half one of unchallenged domination.

Montpellier returned from the locker room with better intention and more aggression, but it didn't really change the tenor of the match. Jean-Luc Vasseur’s players were not troubled, but they didn’t create huge opportunities to widen the gap until Gunnarsdottir showed good composure in front of goal. Buchanan then finished the scoring in the last seconds to make it 5-0. Thanks to this very impressive win away to a top-ranking team, OL consolidated their lead at the top of D1 Arkema two weeks ahead of a visit from Soyaux but above all three weeks before their trip to Paris.

Post-match reactions

Jean-Luc Vasseur

“It was not only the victory but the manner of it. The girls were serious. They did wonderfully well in what they were asked to do. We can be satisfied overall. There were some interesting things to take from this, and also things some things on which we can improve. I liked the impact of the substitutes… Carpenter has integrated herself very well. She feels at home. We are delighted for her. She will continue to progress."

Dzsenifer Marozsan

“We started very well with movement and possession. We scored very early. The second half was a bit more difficult. We still managed to score. It's a great victory ... I'm getting closer to my best level. I'm happy to have scored for the team. Besides, having scored with a header, it's somewhat rare ... We miss our supporters. They are always there for us. We are also playing for them. The mood is very good in the team and it shows on the pitch."
