Women's Champions League: Six Lyon players nominated
League, Coupe de France, Women’s Champions League… Once again this year, Jean-Luc Vasseur’s women won it all, and it may not be over. As they have every year since 2016-2017, a jury made up of the coaches of the eight clubs who participated in the final phase of the competition as well as 20 journalists specializing in women's football selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group have selected three players for each position to name the best players in each position.
Winner of their seventh Champions League, and fifth in a row, OL is obviously well represented with six players: Sarah Bouhaddi for goalkeeper, Lucy Bronze and Wendie Renard for the defenders, Sara Gunnarsdottir and Dzsenifer Marozsan in midfield and Delphine Cascarino in attack. In the top 10 of each position except goalkeeper, many other players have also managed to earn a place:
- Sakina Karchaoui, 4th place, defenders
- Saki Kumagai, Amel Majri, Delphine Cascarino (nominated in two categories) and Amandine Henry, respectively as the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th midfielders
- Eugénie Le Sommer and Ada Hegerberg, 4th and 5th forwards
The results will be released on October 1, the day of the Champions League group stage draw.
