After two months of preparation, serious play could begin. And for their first official outing since March, Lyon took on PSG in this Coupe de la Ligue final in a 3-5-2 devised by Rudi Garcia. Very quickly, OL put a lot of pressure on the Parisians and this was felt in a lively and balanced first period. Very comfortable on the break, OL stood up to their opponent with possession slightly to their disadvantage. Thomas Tuchel's players were more dangerous in going for goal, like Neymar, before Memphis' teammates responded with two good chances before the break.
There were no changes for this second period with two teams still closely matched. Lyon, solidly backed by Marcelo, Denayer and Marçal, delivered a very good defensive performance. While the match logically lost pace in the stifling heat, Anthony Lopes displayed all of his talents with several decisive saves, especially from Neymar. The goalkeeper allowed OL to take PSG to extra time. Lyon, still involved in the match and dangerous, continued to hope as we slowly headed for a penalty shootout ... which ultimately turned in favor of the Parisians. Unfortunately, it was Bertrand Traoré who missed the sixth shot on goal before Sarabia scored his. OL were defeated and concede their 5th loss in the Coupe de la Ligue final among the 6 finals that they have contested ... So cruel.

There are a lot of positive things to take from this, especially in the team's mood. We saw a whole squad battling together. There are a lot of things we can build on. There is quality in this group, especially on the attacking side of things. We created a lot of chances but we didn't manage to finish them. If you defend that well against Juventus, you don't know what can happen in the Champions League. There may be a real gap with the European teams who have fought in the league. There will be a chance for us. We are only three games away from a Champions League final.
