Match summary

After defeating Belgian club Gent, Rudi Garcia's side took on another Jupiler Pro League club, Royal Antwerp. Aligned in a 3-5-2, Lyon did not manage to show much pace in this first period, even if they offered themselves the clearest chances, notably by Moussa Dembélé (23'). The first goal would only be postponed momentarily, though, because the number 9 opened the scoring on a beautiful cross from Léo Dubois a few seconds later (0-1, 24’). On the Antwerp side, it is much more difficult to come close to Anthony Lopes' goal and the Belgian club would even concede a second goal. Houssem Aouar crossed the ball and defender Abdoulaye Seck deflected the ball into his own net (0-2, 45'). The score will not change from there in the first half and the two teams returned to the locker room in a match that did not offer much in the way of intensity.

The second half started at a much better pace. Léo Dubois found Memphis who crossed to the far post for Maxwel Cornet to slot home (0-3, 49 ’). Antwerp were barely making it out of their own half and still hadn't had a shot on target at the hour mark, but Hongla would give his team reason to believe. Rodrigues got forward on the right side and allowed his teammate to reduce the score (1-3, 70 ’). Anthony Lopes avoided it being 2-3 a few moments later by winning his duel against Bolingi. These chance give confidence to Antwerp who would score a second goal. Buta found the net from a cross at the far post and gave OL some nerves to finish the match (2-3, 78 ’). Faced with Antwerp's increasing drive, Rudi Garcia's players decided to put their foot on the ball and calm things down. The pace dropped significantly in the last ten minutes and OL managed to keep their narrow advantage. The preseason ends with this final victory which brings the number of wins for Les Gones to five, having only been defeated by Rangers. Time now for the final of the Coupe de la Ligue in precisely one week.
