Mercato : A first professional contract for Dijbrail Dib
He couldn't have asked for a better birthday present. On July 3, 2020, the day of his 18th birthday, the left-footed Djibrail Dib signed his first professional contract with Olympique Lyonnais. In the presence of the sporting director Juninho and the director of the academy, Jean-François Vulliez, the native of Vénissieux has signed up for the next three seasons with the Rhone club.
“Gaby” has been one of the players who has featured the most with the U19s this season (17 matches, 2 goals), being the top scorer in the Coupe de Gambardella (3 matches, 3 goals) and has also distinguished himself in the Youth League (3 games) including a sublime goal at the Groupama OL Training Center against Benfica in the group stage.
Following on from the signatures of Cherki, Caqueret, Thomas and recently Soumaré, OL is pleased that Dijbrail Dib has decided, despite the advances of certain French and foreign clubs, to continue his career with the club that trained him and repeats that the departures of some young players from the Academy, such as Théo Ndicka Matam and Lucas Margueron, have been done in full agreement with all of the coaches at the club.
Djibrail Dib will resume training this Monday, July 6 with the National 2 side coached by Gueïda Fofana and Jérémie Bréchet, two of the 17 former OL professional players who currently are a part of the sporting team, which characterizes and confirms the will of the institution to rely on the women and men who have made the history of Olympique Lyonnais and established its DNA and allows it to be on the podium among all of the academies of Europe (3rd behind Real Madrid and Barcelona).
The reaction of Djibrail Dib
It is a source of great pride for my family and me. I know this is not an end. This is just the beginning, but it is a pleasure to sign my first professional contract at the club that trained me on my birthday. It shows the confidence of the club, and I want to make it on the pitch. I started football around the age of seven in Vénissieux before joining OL's U12s and getting to play at all of the age groups. My goal is to recover well because I have a groin injury, so I want to take care of myself to return as quickly as possible with the reserves. I chatted a lot with Nabil Fekir. Even if he is no longer here, he advises me a lot.
