The story of the season

OL, for the third consecutive season, are in the ranks of Division 1. The arrival of Lucien Cossou, then Brazilian Constantino Pires, do a lot of good for a squad that could not repeat the success of their previous season. Among the highlights was also the first team debut of Marcel Leborgne, who was just 18. In a career with the team that lasted until June 1969, he played 324 games for Lyon and even became an interim coach in the late 1980s.

The match of the season : Racing Paris-OL

On December 25, 1956, OL traveled to Paris to face Racing. The Lyon goalkeeper, Gabriel Solakian, the club's great hope for the future, was playing only his sixth professional game. At the end of the first half, a Parisian striker clattered him violently, fracturing his leg. He was subbed off, with striker Fatton going in goal. OL won 2-1, and it was a real achivement, but Gabriel Solakian would never play football again. He was only 24 years old.

The player of the season : Pires Constantino

He arrived in Lyon on December 20, 1956. On Christmas Day, he played his first official match with OL. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1957, he scored his first goal in a Lyon jersey. Pires Constantino is the first Brazilian player in OL history, the beginning of a beautiful love story.
