The story of the season
Lucien Troupel is named the new manager of OL. His first coup, as it were, is the first win in OL's history at the Geoffroy Guichard, on October 2, 1955. Camille Ninel scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute.
This season was remarkable in every way. A few days before the end of the campaign, OL are the league's surprise package and could achieve an extraordinary double. Unfortunately, defeat in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France would deeply affect the team, who are unable to win its last games to record a first league title.
The match of the season: UA Sedan-OL
On May 6, 1956, OL played the first semi-final of the Coupe de France in its history. OL were then second in Division 1, having just beaten (3-0) the leader Nice and seemed the favorite against Sedan. But the match is littered with improbable refereeing errors at this level. The City of Lyon would even complain, without success, and a dream had departed.
The player of the season : Aimé Mignot
He arrived quietly on December 12, 1955, from Aix en Provence. Aimé Mignot was just 23 years old and played his first official match with OL on January 8, 1956, in a record victory (10-0) in the Coupe de France. This was the first match with Lyon for a player who will play 425 games in the colors of Lyon, and then would spend almost eight seasons as coach of the team, becoming a real legend.
