The story of the season

It was a time for reconstruction and renewal. After a first, sometimes painful experience in the top flight, OL had to rise, particularly financially, to build a more sustainable future in the first division. On the team side, it was therefore with some upheaval and plenty of movement in both directions, including the noted arrivals of Marcel Duval, Kaj Christiansen and especially Erny Schultz, who will not take long to start scoring.

The third season in the club’s history was therefore one of transition, as its position in the middle of the table did not allow it to make a push for promotion. The young players of the team, lacking experience, took advantage of  the1952-53 season to prove themselves and gain experience; it was good omen for the future.

Match of the season : OL - LOSC

On April 6, 1953, OL played a friendly match against LOSC at the Stade Gerland. Les Gones, then in Division 2, put five new players on the pitch. Lille won (13-0), which is still a record today. Obviously, no player who featured for OL wore the Lyon jersey as a professional afterwards.

The players of the season : Charles et Jacques Banguillot

On August 24, 1952, OL went away to Béziers to start their Division 2 season. Among the starters were Charles and Jacques Banguillot, who had arrived directly from Martinique. It was the first time that two brothers had played together  for OL.
