The decision to retire

In terms of my legs and head, everything was fine. I just think it was the right time to stop. I didn't want to last season. I am well prepared to stop this year. There is no being sick of it. I made the most of it. You just have to know how to stop. I have achieved my goals. I only remember positive things. I spent 18 years at the top level, in Ligue 1. I left a good mark, I had a lot of messages of support. This is happiness.

The secret to a long career

You have to know how to find your rhythm. I knew when to be serious and when to let go. I love life, parties with friends, partying. You have to know how to cut loose after matches. Behind a career like this, there is also a wife and children. That family base has been very important in my career. It was possible to overindulge at the right time. We have to find a happy medium. Only the level on the pitch is judged in the end.

His time in Lyon

There is no regret. I was just at OL at a time when the team was at the top of Europe. It was hard to play in this team but I learned a lot. I wanted to have playing time and I had to leave. The players at the time had a great experience, they were on another level. I couldn't stake a claim to anything else. Whenever I come back to Lyon, people remember my early career… I scored my first pro goal in Metz in my last match at OL when I returned home. My decision was already made at that time. I only have good memories.

His opinion of Rudi Garcia

“I had him as a coach for several years in Lille. He is the one who allowed me to make the most progress in my game. We must not forget that he won titles. He has had results. He is a coach who leaves a lot of freedom to his players on the pitch and that is important. "
