Atalanta – OL (YL) : Continue the adventure (15h on RMC Sport 1)
OL will have to defeat Atalanta in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Youth League to continue their European journey. Eric Hély and his side will go to Florence to play the meeting since Bergamo is considered a containment zone because of Coronavirus. It’s an essential match in the Academy’s season. Currently 5th in Pool B of the U19 National Championship, four points from the podium, Pierre Kalulu and his teammates can give themselves a breath of fresh air with this meeting following their defeat this weekend against FC Metz (4-1). They managed to defeat Zaragoza (1-3), the reigning Spanish champion, in the previous round thanks to a very good collective performance punctuated by an irreproachable state of mind.
But it is a completely different task which is now ahead of Lyon. Atalanta have been exceptional this season. The Italian club is first in the Italian U19 national championship standings, three points ahead of the runner-up but has played one game less. In the Youth League, the results have been just as positive since the men of Massimo Brambilla finished first in their group thanks to four victories, a draw and a defeat. First place in the group was therefore synonymous with a place in the Round of 16, without going through the play-off round which pitted OL against Zaragoza. It will thus be Atalanta’s first Youth League match since their last group match which took place on 11 December in Donetsk (1-2). It will therefore be no small task for Olympique Lyonnais to qualify in Italy. It will be necessary to show as much solidarity in the team's efforts to hope to win a place among the final eight European teams.
