Olympique Lyonnais faced Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France this Wednesday evening at Groupama Stadium. It was a match which, if won, would mean a second final at the Stade de France for the players of Rudi Garcia. From the start of the match, the supporters present at Décines witnessed a high-intensity match. In the first ten minutes, there was a big opportunity for each of the two sides. But it was in the 12th minute that Martin Terrier gave the advantage to Lyon from a super cross by Karl Toko-Ekambi (1-0). The joy was short-lived for the locals since it was only two minutes later that the Ile-de-France side equalized thanks to a cross to the head of Layvin Kurzawa on a corner for Kylian Mbappé who found himself alone facing the empty goal. Thereafter, the game calmed down somewhat, giving the two teams time to catch their breath before offering a few chances for either side before half-time.
Upon returning from the locker room, Lyon quickly proved to be more enterprising and more dangerous with the ball. But a handball from Fernando Marçal in the area would cut their momentum. It was a penalty and second yellow card for the Brazilian defender. Neymar converted the penalty after an interminable wait. Reduced to ten men and playing their third game in seven days, Anthony Lopes and his teammates failed to react in the wake of the sending off. Leaving space at the back, they even conceded three additional goals. It's a defeat that stops Lyon's good momentum but one which remains encouraging in the fact that at 11 against 11, the residents of Groupama Stadium showed a lot, dominating their opponent on the evening over long stages of the match. We turn to the championship now with an important match looming in the north against LOSC this Sunday.
. EXPERT ANALYSIS - ARNAUD RIVENET
It’s a very expensive price to pay for this Lyon team, who had a very good start to the match. We didn't look like much after the expulsion of Fernando Marçal. Let’s turn now to Sunday’s league game against Lille. It is surely the more important of the two.
At Groupama Stadium, Décines.
