Florent Da Silva : « C’est notre Champions League à nous »
Before going to Bergamo to face Atalanta in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Youth League (Tuesday, 2 p.m.), Florent Da Silva took part in an interview for OL Media. The midfielder born in 2003 spoke about this prestigious match but also about his season, his first steps with the first team and his friend, Rayan Cherki.

Florent, what does it take to be an OL player from such an early age?

It has been a pride to play at OL for ten years, especially since I was born next door, in Vaulx-en-Velin. It's every player’s dream to play at OL. Now I’m looking forward to  playing for the first team. It’s a kid’s dream.

Who are the players who have inspired you and made you want to make your future as a professional?

Since childhood, my role model has been Andres Iniesta. I’ve watched a lot of videos of him, he’s the best for me.

How do you feel about being able to play your first matches in National 2?

I've been training with the reserves for two years. I am proud to have been able to play in National 2 these last weeks. It is up to me to continue to become a starting player. Last season was a great season, I was able to be decisive for my team and carry it forward to the top. My 14 goals and 12 assists are a reward for a great season on my part. With Bradley Barcola, we told ourselves how many goals we wanted to score and we tried to work toward that as much as possible (laughs).

How does it feel to have trained with the pros this season?

When I trained with the pros it always went well. I hope to be able to work with them as much as possible. Everything goes faster and it takes being stronger. They are more professional, that’s very definite. Houssem Aouar is very close to the young players. There is also Martin Terrier who took me under his wing, we get along very well. I take whatever there is to learn, I obviously listen to their advice.

What will it take to qualify in Italy against Atalanta?

We must first defend well because we saw in Zaragoza that being behind it was not easy. The Italian teams play with an edge so we will have to stay calm all together. We will have to be effective on the chances have and make them count as we did in Spain. It will be a great challenge to go there and try to qualify. This is our Champions League.

Rayan Cherki and you are the same age. What do you think of his progress and is it an inspiration for you?

I have known Rayan since I was a child because we are the same age. We also arrived at the club at the same time. He’s a very good player, I’m very happy for him. I do not try to foresee the future but I think he will have a very good career. From the start, he has been incredible. He is very technical and that's what makes the difference today. As soon as I saw him play as a pro, it made me want to join him. It gives me even more hope to one day become part of the first team.
