Retro OL - Juventus : Des duels acharnés entre voisins
Olympique Lyonnais have faced Juventus twice during the last decade. Among these were two closely fought matches in which Lyon showed great desire and great things. Elements, of course, that the players of Rudi Garcia would be well advised to reproduce to get a result this Wednesday.

OL have crossed paths with the team from Turin on the Rhone twice in their history, twice in the past seven years: in the quarterfinals of the Europa League in 2013-14 and in the group stage of Champions League during 2016/2017. Both meetings were lost against the Italian juggernaut by the smallest of margins (0-1) and in them could be observed a lot of positives. Between combativeness, aggressiveness and a desire to attack, Lyon posed serious problems for the Italians during the two games. These are examples to be inspired by to hope to earn a result this time in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 match at Groupama Stadium to keep hope alive before the return leg.

Europa League 2013/2014

In a high-stakes quarterfinal, OL responded in the best possible way against Juventus. Rémi Garde's players are combative and are drive by an impressive Malbranque who terrorizes the Italian midfield. But Lyon repeatedly stumble against Buffon who keeps his team alive several times. Unfortunately, the former residents of the Stade Gerland would eventually concede in in the final moments after a scramble at a corner which lead to a goal by Bonucci. The return leg would be just as closely fought but a victory (2-1) by the Turin side would see them reach the last four of the competition.

Champions League 2016/2017

It was during the group stages of the Champions League that OL faced their neighbor from across the Alps again. Once again, the new occupants of Groupama Stadium posed difficulties for the Italian champion. Lacazette could not even score against Buffon from the penalty spot in the first half. Returning from the locker room, Juventus were down to ten men after Lemina had been sent off . It was an opportunity that Lyon could not seize because it faced a goalkeeper in Buffon who was at the top of his game. The result will be especially cruel as Cuadrado would score ten minutes from time thanks to shot from a difficult angle that found its way into the corner of Lyon's goal.
