PSG - OL : The Parisiens were too strong for OL (4-2)
6 '. Magnificent coiled strike by Martin Terrier from the left corner of the area which is only a few centimeters from the Parisian goal.
14 '. Di Maria has a brilliant run in the middle of the pitch and plays in Mbappé who shoots against Anthony Lopes who does well to come off his line.
22 '. Di Maria overlaps on the right side, and turns into the middle without being challenged and scores a goal with his left foot at the near post (1-0).
30'. Angel Di Maria combines with Icardi before attempting a left-footed shot at the edge to the area but the shot goes just above the crossbar.
39. One of a string of strong counterattacks, Meunier overlaps and crosses for Mbappé. The ball is deflected by Marcelo but not enough to prevent Mbappé from poking the ball over Lopes (2-0).
48. Mendes misses clearing Di Maria's cutback when the ball seemed lost for PSG, then it is once again Marçal who missed his challenge and sends the ball into his own net. (3-0)
52 '. After a good bit of play, Martin Terrier faces down Kaylor Navas, who does not deflect the ball enough to prevent a goal. Hope is somewhat rekindled on the Lyon side. (3-1)
59 '. Terrier perfectly picks out Toko Ekambi, just on as a substitute, who responds with an incredible burst of speed, beating the Parisian defense from behind and playing in Dembélé perfectly just in front of an empty goal. The latter reduced the score with a shot between Meunier's legs. (3-2)
63 '. OL are very close to equalizing with Moussa Dembélé who, taking down a cross, sees his shot pass a few millimeters from goal.
69. Mbappé hits the crossbar.
80. A PSG who had seemingly stopped playing and put OL to sleep at the same time, scored their fourth goal through Edinson Cavani, well served by Di Maria. (4-2)
Despite a good start to the match, Lyon were quickly punished by the more pragmatic Parisians. It all started with Angel Di Maria in the 22nd minute, overlapping on the right side. The Argentinian is not challenged and perfectly places a ball in the most beautiful way at the near post, at the same time beating the Lyon goalkeeper. After this, the players of Rudi Garcia hardly touched the ball in the first half. Technically comfortable, the players of the capital side worked quickly get into the best conditions to double the lead. With more aggressiveness and fighting spirit, the PSG would do exactly that. One of a string of favorable counterattacks, Thomas Meunier overlapped on the right flank 5 minutes from the break, the side from which the danger had mainly come from to that point, and crossed for Kylian Mbappé. The deflection by Marcelo was not enough to prevent the world champion from taking the ball down with one touch and poking it over Anthony Lopes. It was thus a half mainly delineated by Parisian possession and a lack of aggressiveness on the Rhone side.
Returning from the locker room, Anthony Lopes and his teammates conceded a third goal within three minutes. Mendes tackled a ball lost by Draxler who crossed to Marçal's feet, who in turn sent the ball into his own net. But following this third goal conceded, Lyon changed their outlook and after a great bit of passing, Martin Terrier beat the Parisian goalkeeper. Only a few minutes later and driven by the entry of a flamboyant Toko Ekambi, OL are back in the game and it shows. The Cameroonian overlapped on the flank and found Moussa Dembélé perfectly who, facing goal, reduced the score to 3-2. After that, the players coached by Thomas Tuchel would put their foot on the ball and no longer give the slightest hope to Lyon. To complete its performance, PSG will even score a fourth goal thanks to Edinson Cavani on a superb assist from Di Maria, who was everywhere this evening as he has done so often this season. It was thus a logical performance for Lyon in view of the colossal gap that exists between the two teams in the table. But the team will have to quickly get back on track in Décines on Wednesday, since Olympique Lyonnais plays its quarterfinal in the Coupe de France against Olympique de Marseille at Groupama Stadium. But it will also especially be necessary to get back on track in the league next weekend against Strasbourg to go back up the table as quickly as possible.
. EXPERT ANALYSIS - ARNAUD RIVENET
There was a difference in level. It was a strange match. We weren't consistent throughout the match. The own goal at the start of the second half weighed us down a bit but we knew how to react. We even were close to an equalizer at 3-3. There is no scandal but it is a shame because we have the feeling that there was something that could have been achieved. It’s a little frustrating. There is a big match in the Coupe de France that awaits us on Wednesday, and it promises plenty in hoping that we can keep to winning ways in the Cups.
