The setback suffered Sunday in Nice (2-1) brought to an end the strong run that OL had been on at the start of 2020. It was a long series of seven matches in January, during which the men of Rudi Garcia pocketed six wins as well as qualification to the final of the Coupe de la Ligue, on penalties, while alternating among that competition, the league and the Coupe de France. Did the incredible dynamic of January dissipate with this first speed bump in February? Three days after the disappointment suffered on the Côte d'Azur, Lyon had to prove that it would not be the same when hosting Amiens at Groupama Stadium. Especially against a side engaged in a fight for survival, one who occupied, before kick-off, the relegation play-off place, and had not won a single match since November 2...
The logical favorite in this match, OL nevertheless struggled to establish its status on the pitch. Dominant in terms of possession but offering little offensively, the Rhodaniens, like their opponents, struggled to be dangerous during the first half hour, until a golden double opportunity was denied by Gurtner (33' and 34'), captain of the Picardy side, who proved himself and prevented OL from taking the lead. It was only a little but it was enough to summarize the first half. On the return from the locker room, the duels were a little more fierce, especially thanks to Rayan Cherki coming on from the bench. Unfortunately, when Gurtner was not making a big save (73 '), it was the woodwork's turn to come to the rescue of Amiens (83'), much to the chagrin of Rudi Garcia's men who thought they would win at the very end when Houssem Aouar (88 ') was justifiably denied a goal. The Lyon coach and his players will certainly ruminate for a long time on these two big missed chance late on but splitting the points nonetheless seems fair given the lackluster cadence of this match.
. EXPERT ANALYSIS - BRYAN BERGOUGNOUX
In desire and effort, Amiens were superior but did not necessarily have the quality to do more. They were better, especially in their pressing. If we had put forth as much as them, we would have had many more chances and we would have put them much more at risk. Only the end of the match was positive, with the entry of Rayan (Cherki). For the rest of it, we were constantly in trouble. We fell back into our bad ways, with too many poor performances.
