After Nice-OL (1-2) : Moussa Dembélé, unstoppable in January

He kept up this pace all through January. An unhappy figure at the end of December following his missed penalty at Reims, Moussa Dembélé was able to sweep away doubts and critics during a first month of the year which was simply exceptional. His goal tally continued to rise and his latest statistics speak for themselves.

The 23-year-old striker recorded a flawless run of performances in January: every match saw him score at least one goal, and thanks to yet another a new classy finish, he saw his team record a Coupe de France victory in Nice this Thursday evening. Moussa Dembélé has been a goal scorer eight times and in each of the last seven meetings that OL have played, all in 2020. It's a run of performances that has not been achieved since Alexandre Lacazette between December 2016 and January 2017. With his eight goals, including four in the Coupe de France, and three assists, he was the key man at the start of the year, being involved in almost half of the team's goals (11/23).
The run of good form he is on has already allowed him to approach his final goals total from last season. Having had four months of competition with many goals, the player who arrived a year and a half ago is now just two goals from matching his first season in Lyon, where he had found the net 20 times all competitions. He has already matched his number of assists with six.
