OGC Nice-OL (CDF) : un mental d'acier pour s'offrir un Olympico en 1/4 ! (1-2)
OL won 2 to 1 away to OGC Nice. At the end of a match they largely controlled, Lyon punched their ticket to the quarterfinals of the Coupe de France against OM. This "first round" against Les Aiglons was a win, with the second scheduled for Sunday, once again on the Côte d'Azur.

10 '. First shot on target for Tousart.
14 '. Dangerous situation in the Lyon area but Andersen comes to the rescue.
15 '. Dembélé gets a goal after superb chest control in the area. 0-1.
19. Tatarusanu makes a diving save to divert an attempt from Ganogo.
24. Powerful strike from Cherki which forces Benitez to concede a corner kick.
63'. Cherki's shot across goal whizzes by the far post.
77 '. Nice have a free kick, but Tatarusanu does well to punch it clear.
88. Huge save by Tatarusanu to stop a backheel from Dolberg.
89. Ounas' goal is the equalizer with a powerful strike into the opposite corneer 1-1.
90 + 3. Aouar converts a penalty obtained by Toko Ekambi. 1-2.

On an excellent run with six victories in as many matches since the start of the year, OL had to keep on going. There was no choice actually with this Round of 16 match of the Coupe de France to finish this month of January which has put the spotlight on the domestic cups. After having qualified for the final of the Coupe de la Ligue a week ago, Lyon had in no case the will to continue in the Coupe de France, which could offer them a big match against OM if they qualified in Nice. As was customary in 2020, they were quick to display their ambitions in the game. Desire, movement and a goal by Moussa Dembélé within a quarter of an hour rewarded the good start by the striker's team. Lyon continued to boss play keeping Nice quiet through the end of a first period which they managed perfectly.

The second half started without Maxwel Cornet. Very active on the left of a 5-man defense and author of the cross for the goal, he was forced to leave his place to Marçal because of a bit of discomfort. The game was balanced before the teammates of Lucas Tousart, the evening's captain, clearly took matters into their own hands. Rayan Cherki and Moussa Dembélé were becoming more and more threatening but the goal to seal the result still did not come and OGC Nice had not yet given up hope. As they have before Lyon ended up cracking, giving up an impressive goal to Ounas in the 88th minute. Their strength of character was not undermined, however, and Karl Toko Ekambi was awarded a penalty a few seconds later. Houssem Aouar converted and sent his side into the quarterfinal of the Coupe de France with a reception of OM on the program! Before that, they will return to Nice on Sunday for the second round, this time in Ligue 1 Conforama. A perfect start to 2020!

Nice were not dangerous in the first half. We had control. We executed good pressing and we worked well. The choices of Rudi Garcia and the staff paid off. The Nice players struggled with what they usually do best. I think there was a plan for the cup and the league and that something else will have to be done on Sunday to surprise OGC Nice.
