OL - Toulouse : A good dynamic to maintain (3 p.m. on BeIN Sport 1)
After a very challenging first match in the league, the players of Rudi Garcia knew that this first half of 2020 would not leave much room for error. The message has so far been well-received with five wins in a row and above all a superb qualification for the Coupe de la Ligue final on April 4. While it was not easy going on Tuesday evening, it was all the more beautiful and intense, as evidenced by the scenes of communion between players, staff, president and supporters. While many important players are still absent (Memphis, Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, Léo Dubois, Youssouf Koné…), other players have taken on their responsibilities, something in particular aided by the emergence of certain academy products (Maxence Caqueret, Rayan cherki ...). All of these are good omens as the team prepare to face the Toulousains.
With the win in Bordeaux two weeks ago, Les Gones moved up to seventh place. With 29 points, they are part of a bracket of teams within just four points of each other (between Nantes, fourth with 32 points and Nice, eleventh with 28 points). In a championship where the table has rarely been so tight, OL are in the thick of things. The challenge will now be to chase down Stade Rennais, third with 36 points. However, the tightness of the table adds some pressure: in the event of a mis-step, things can change quickly as these teams are close to each other.
Toulouse Football Club has had a hellish season so far. 20th in the table, the Pitchouns have not won in the league since October 19 against Lille (2-1). Worse, aside from a win in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de la Ligue in Niort (1-2) on October 30, they are on twelve defeats running in all competitions. In early January, coach Antoine Kombouaré was even replaced by Denis Zanko. If we add to this table the worst defense in Ligue 1 (44 goals conceded), there is not much reason to hope to see and end to the problems that Les Violets are going through currently. It is up to OL to take advantage of this to continue its forward march.
