 SUMMARY AND LESSONS

OL, to this point impeccable in the cups after recently progressing in the Coupe de France, were just 90 minutes away from a ticket to the final. In order to reach the showpiece occasion in the Coupe de la Ligue, however, the hardest test was still to come in the shape of bogey team Lille, unbeaten at Groupama Stadium since its inauguration in 2016. And things got off to a bad start with an early goal from Sanches. Pushed on by the home fans, the hosts responded quickly, with Moussa Dembélé ending his wait for a successful penalty. The rest of the half was fiery as the two sides cancelled each other out.

The second half picked up where the first had left off. Lille had plenty of possession but failed to pose any danger to Tatarusanu's goal. Jason Denayer and his team-mates were in a different situation, taking advantage of the few openings in space to try their luck. The match was very choppy and still getting back into balance, but time was running out and neither side seemed able to find the winning strike. Then, it was Houssem Aouar, with a moment of individual brilliance, who brought the stadium to its feet. The final minutes looked tense, and so it was, as Rafael conceded a penalty that Remy converted. It all came down to a shootout and, at the end of the night, it was OL who reached the final of the Coupe de la Ligue! We will return to the Stade de France after a six-year wait. See you on 4 April. What a night!

. EXPERT ANALYSIS - BRYAN BERGOUGNOUX.

It was a very complicated match, but in the end we managed to do what we had to do to resist the Lille press, which was very intense at the start. We got back into the game and the magnificent goal by Houssem Aouar opened the door for us. We fell back into our ways at the end of the match but the most important thing is that we're at the Stade de France. Lille put a lot of force into the duels. It was difficult for us to pass the ball back and forth. In the second half, we put our foot on the ball and Lille lost momentum because they couldn't hold on like that throughout the game and expend so much energy.
