Press Release: Karl Toko-Ekambi joins Lyon
This loan deal in the amount of € 4 million is accompanied by a purchase option in the amount of € 11.5 million to which may be added a maximum of € 4 million in incentives as well as a 15% sell-on fee from a possible future transfer (50% if the transfer takes place before 09/15/20).
Trained at Paris FC, Karl Toko Ekambi played in Ligue 2 with FC Sochaux from 2014 to 2016, before joining the Angers SCO, club with whom he scored 25 goals in 2 Ligue 1 seasons from 2016 to 2018. In summer 2018, he joined Villareal, scoring 18 goals in his first season. Elected the La Liga player of the month last October, Karl Toko Ekambi has played 62 games with the Spanish club, scoring 25 goals, and adding 10 assists.
The 27-year-old Cameroonian international (the 11th player from his country to join) also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 with the Indomitable Lions and received, in 2018, the Marc-Vivien Foé prize, awarded to the best African player in Ligue 1. The arrival of Karl Toko Ekambi confirms the ambition of Olympique Lyonnais, still battling in 4 competitions, to give themselves the means to be at the highest level in this second part of the season.
