After a big win (0-7) in the Coupe de France to start the new decade and a second (3-1) in the Coupe de la Ligue, OL were back in action in Ligue 1. After a complicated end to the year in the league, the year has started perfectly. Lyon had to now confirm as much in the league.

Despite a good start to the match with some unsuccessful chances, OL were surprised by Jimmy Briand on a bad pass out from the back by Joachim Andersen (1-0, 15 ’). Dominant with plenty of possession, the Rhone side had to chase the match. Punished by one Bordeaux's rare chances, the Lyon continued to create chances, but stumbled against an airtight opposing defence. Against the run of play, it was the hosts who lead at the break. Rudi Garcia's players had to be more skillful in front of goal and bring more movements to their play to offer solutions in the final third.

Jean-Michel Aulas' players were not lacking for effort. After the break, Les Gones kept up the intensity. And this time, it paid off. Picked out on the left side, Maxwel Cornet turned towards the middle and shot from the edge of the area. His deflected shot ended up in the back of the net (1-1, 50’). In the process, the Ivorian became inspired and quickly turned provider, playing in Moussa Dembélé perfectly. The striker didn't hesitate, sending a powerful shot into goal and allows his team to take the lead (1-2, 53’).

In a match controlled end-to-end, OL were logically (1-2) ahead. Behind at the break despite having numerous attempts, the Red and Blues turned the match around with high-level play in the second period. After a first goal obtained miraculously, the Bordelais thought they had scored a second goal, but Koscielny's equalizer was ruled out for offside. Lyon win this first match in the league in 2020 and affirmed their good start to the year.

We'll remember the victory, but more than that, I enjoyed watching OL. We combined really well, and we have to be relaxed to be able to play like this, but bring back aggressiveness at the finish, which we have missed at times. Tonight Bordeaux deserved nothing and OL really deserved its victory. We were very good for 85 minutes. We just looked shaken for the last 5 minutes. Maxence Caqueret has a lot of talent. He always makes himself available and pressed very high. It prevents the opponent from playing correctly. Maxwel isn't judged fairly. He is five goals from being in the top 20 scorers of all time; he has an important place in the club.
